UTAMA benefits to you as a Student or Instructor

As a member you receive many benefits now, and for all members, the list of benefits will be
continuously growing as we all grow together. Here are just a few:

Students:

You will have a vast network of fellow students in various arts and styles, where you can discuss
differences, similarities, techniques, and it is our hope that members will get together to discuss
whatever interests them, as well as ways UTAMA can better assist you.

You will also be connected to many instructors from around the world, from a variety of styles, and you
will be able to discuss openly with them, and they can provide advice, guidance, or just conversation...
there are a lot of great stories to be told by many of the instructors, Masters, and Grand Masters!

You will receive discounts on uniforms, weapons, training supplies, or whatever is offered by our
UTAMA professional affiliates and schools, your school may be an UTAMA school, where you will
likely receive a discount on your monthly dues, and private lessons.

If you find yourself in another neighborhood, on vacation in another state or country, or while traveling
on business, you can log into www.utamainternational.com and locate an UTAMA school near you,
where you will know you are with friends and family, and if they are a participating member, you may
be able to train for free while you are in town.

When UTAMA sponsors workshops, and seminars, or a wide variety of other events, your membership
will automatically grant you a discounted entry fee, as well as discounts on many of the items sold at
the events.

You may one day choose to open a school of your own, and through the community of UTAMA, you
can pick up valuable tips on teaching and opening a successful school, or any other business.

There are many benefits not listed here, and that list is ever expanding, but you will know as an active
UTAMA member, that wherever you go, with whomever you train under, as long as those you
encounter on your journey, if they are also UTAMA members, you are among the best, you are with
family.

Instructors:

Along with all of the aforementioned benefits, Instructors will also have themselves out in close contact
with the community, making yourself available to expand your teaching, your student base, and your
knowledge.

You do not necessarily need to have as school to teach, many of us have learned from great Masters in
backyards, basements, and parks, with an instructor listing, you can be found for such opportunities, or
perhaps an existing school needs more instructors, and rather than going through a long vetting process,
the school in need of instructors, would know that UTAMA is the first place to find good instructors,
with high moral fiber.

You will also be made available to be contacted for workshops and seminars, or simply to come teach
another instructor's class so their students have the chance to see and learn something different.

If you would like to bring in an instructor from outside, or host a seminar, tournament, or other event,
you may receive discounted rates for booking those instructors, services, and advertising.

As part of the UTAMA family, you may find yourself in need of a space for a one time, or more
frequent class or event, and rather than coming up with big deposits and rental fees, it's quite possible
that one of your fellow members, can offer the use of their space.

If you already have a school, or plan to open one, the community will have great advice, and guidance
to assist you in the business aspect, as well as management, or, you may be able to provide that very
advice to others.

You may not need or even wish to teach commercially, but there are still ways UTAMA can help, you
may find that long lost martial arts brother/ sister, or instructor, that you have been out of contact with,
and always wanted to reconnect, just happens to be listed in the next column on the UTAMA website.

UTAMA Community Benefits:

One of the many goals of UTAMA is to build a community that serves many purposes.
We hope everyone will feel, engage, participate, and behave as a family. Of course in every family we
cannot expect to always see eye to eye, and if a disagreement or difference arises, the entire family is
there to work together at resolve.
A big point to be made, and one that was a focus for many members as they joined our family, is the
reality that so many martial artists hand out, accept, create, and in some cases, forge documentation of
rank. As a community, we can usually tell, or find out whether or not this is the case, however UTAMA
would like to take it even further. While we do not certify or validate rank in any official capacity, we
would like the community to come together, as ethical teachers, students, businesses, or individuals,
where we, as the community can confer upon someone our respect as ethical practitioners, the
acceptance that one deserves.
An example for this could be, for instance, a student has trained with their Master for many years,
they have been honorable in training, honored their teacher, their students, and their community, as well
as their own family, but then something unfortunate happens, and this person's Master unexpectedly
passes on, and just for clarity of this point, let's say the Master was the last in the area, of that particular
lineage.
The student now has a dilemma, without having the title of Inheritor officially conferred upon them,
and without anyone to promote them any higher as their training continues, the student may not be able
to move forward in this system, and perhaps they prefer to continue as opposed to going to a
completely new system.
In too many cases these days, the student would write down an outline in some cases, or just hold it
in memory, come up with a name for a system, then go on teaching it, but calling themselves a Grand
Master or founder. Technically they are a founder, but by the standards of tradition and community,
those titles are never easy to come by, and therefore, not the right, or ethical way to obtain them.
If the student were an UTAMA member, the community would be available to come together, validate
the history and lineage, observe the skill of the orphaned student, and confer upon them, the respect of
the community for their skill, experience, wisdom, and ethics, and accept the student for who they are
and what they represent, provided, those values are in accordance with the community and their
standards of ethics.
UTAMA would not suggest, validate, or be involved in the official assignment of rank or title, if any
of that were to be issued and honored, it would be by the community, by the family.
